ABF Sugar "Safety Ambassador" App makes a big impact!

20 AUGUST 2024

Recognising the people in our business who go beyond their daily call to promote safety has recently been given additional impetus through a mobile app which in addition to garnering remarkable engagement represents another concrete step taken to support our safety strategic priority.

Designed by our safety leadership to recognise and celebrate exceptional safety behaviour and performance among our colleagues, teams and operations, the programme also aims to foster a robust safety culture by recognising those who maintain high safety standards and lead by example.

Since its inception, the programme has recognised the work of over 100 safety-driven employees at the same time as recognising the safety performances of three operations which as entities, have accomplished safety milestones recognised as best practice within our safety programme.

The success of the app-based programme rests on the recognition of individuals, teams and/or operations by business unit leaders who every three months, upload their own nominations to the app together with photos and other supporting material to showcase good safety practice by our colleagues. Once the judging process is completed and our winners selected, their successes are rewarded with certificates and the news is shared on the app and provides for easy access to materials for noticeboards and publication in internal newsletters among our communications teams.

ABF Sugar’s beet factory in the United Kingdom – Cantley Sugar Factory which produces up to 220 000 tons of sugar annually is the latest winner of the Q3 “operations award”.

Aside from promoting healthy and friendly competition among workplace peers, recognising safety “ambassadors”, “all-stars”, and “Top Safety Operations” is intentionally geared towards driving continuous improvement and fostering an environment where safety is a shared responsibility - which in turn leads to higher engagement and motivation.

Congratulations to all our colleagues and operations who have so far been recognised through the ABF Sugar programme – keep up the good work!
